June 21st marks the longest Day of the whole year, known as Midsummer, the Summer Solstice, Litha; the dates are from June 19th – June 23. The beginning of the summer we feel the heat… the heat of flames licking at our face begging to wake us from winter/spring slumber, what have you been trying to manifest? it’s time to tend to these now for they will be blossoming soon enough waiting to be harvested in soon to be coming Lammas (wait for upcoming info)
Common Traditions and Rituals
Bonfires and Candle Magic: Lighting fires or candles represents the sun’s power, purification, and protection. Jumping over flames or walking around them is believed to bring luck and ward off negativity
Sunrise and Sunset Vigils: Many practitioners greet the sun at dawn or watch it set, reflecting on personal growth and the energy of the season
Altar Decorations: Altars are adorned with sunflowers, roses, calendula, herbs, gold or yellow candles, citrus fruits, and solar symbols to honor the sun and nature’s abundance
Flower Crowns and Wreaths: Wearing or creating floral crowns celebrates fertility, the earth’s bounty, and the sun’s vitality
Herb and Plant Magic: Herbs like St. John’s Wort, mug wort, chamomile, lavender, yarrow, and calendula are harvested for their peak potency and used in spells, offerings, or decorations.
Feasting and Community Gatherings: Seasonal foods such as honey, berries, and fresh vegetables are shared in communal meals, reflecting abundance and gratitude.
Solar and Nature Magic: Rituals may include making sun water, performing solar magic spells, or honoring deities associated with the sun, fertility, and growth, such as Ra, Helios, Apollo, Baldr, Lugh, Freyr, and Gaia
Fae and Spirit Offerings: The solstice is considered a liminal time when the veil between worlds is thin. Offerings of milk, honey, or flowers are left for fairies or nature spirits
Wheel of the Year Symbolism: Litha marks the peak of the sun’s power and the transition toward shorter days, symbolizing the balance of light and dark and the cyclical nature of life
Deities I will work with during Litha:
Apollo and Ra I know the difference in legends and backgrounds…
personally, I work with Egyptian and Greek deities not combining energies but saving space for both of the deities and energy.
I tend to set up different places of altars during these times I am called to work with multiple of the gods/goddesses
Respecting their induvial energy and what they govern in life and death…
